Katrina Fanning Shield: Round 16 Wrap

The four-way race for the Minor Premiership continues in the Blumers Lawyers Katrina Fanning Shield following crucial results in round 16.

Goulburn City Bulldogs 28 defeat Gungahlin Bulls 12

The Goulburn City Bulldogs impressed their home fans with a massive upset over the Gungahlin Bulls on Saturday.

The seventh-placed Bulldogs ended fourth-placed Gungahlin's bid for five straight wins.

This victory marks the second consecutive week the Bulldogs have defeated a top four team, having beaten the Blues in round 15 and now the Bulls.

Goulburn centre Katelyn Staples was unstoppable in attack, crossing for a hat-trick and proving to be the difference in the five tries to two game.

Despite the loss, the Bulls have done enough to secure their top-four spot, as they aim to bounce back and build momentum heading into the finals.

Tuggeranong Bushrangers 26 defeat Bungendore Kangaroos 18

The Tuggeranong Bushrangers had the edge over the Bungendore Kangaroos, with a tightly contested 8 point victory.

Bushrangers forward Nirvana Ngan-Woo delivered an outstanding performance, scoring four important tries on the day.

In the Kangaroos best attacking display of the season, Madison Batchelor, Kayla Couch, and Jaimee Patton all found their way over the try line.

Both teams continue to show up and compete as they aim to finish their seasons strongly in their final two matches.

Queanbeyan Blues 6 defeat West Belconnen Warriors 4

The Queanbeyan Blues clinched a two point win against the West Belconnen Warriors at Seiffert Oval.

The close battle saw Tracy-Lee Graf score for the Blues and Amelia Vea for the Warriors, but Blues halfback Briony Frater made the difference with a successful conversion.

The win puts the Blues on top of the table with 22 points. However, their bye this week hurts their Minor Premiership chances as Woden, Yass, and Gungahlin are all on 20 points.

Meanwhile, the Warriors are out of the top four race and will aim for back-to-back wins in the final two rounds.

Yass Magpies 18 defeat Belconnen United Sharks 10

The Yass Magpies have cemented their top four spot with a win over the Belconnen United Sharks on home soil at Walker Park.

In a hard-fought contest, Sophie Gaynor, Christie Johnson, and Tiana Boulding scored for Yass, while Montana Maher and Makayla Clark found the try line for Belconnen.

The Magpies now sit in third, level on points with second place, and now have a chance to claim the Minor Premiership with no byes in the final two rounds.

Meanwhile, the Sharks aim to finish their strong inaugural KFS season on a high and build towards 2025.
