Canberra Raiders Cup: Round 17 Wrap

Dominance is the best word to describe round 17 of the Blumers Lawyers Canberra Raiders Cup, which featured clinical performances across all four games.

Woden Valley Rams 44 defeat Gungahlin Bulls 0

The Woden Valley Rams secured a well earned 44-nil victory over the Gungahlin Bulls on Saturday afternoon.

Rams' edges were unstoppable, as winger Michael Geiger claimed four tries, while his opposite winger Koko Salim crossed for a double.

Woden's win brings them to 24 points, level with the Roos and Blues, setting up a battle for the minor premiership, or at least an important top two spot, with one round remaining.

With a bye in the final round, the Bulls concluded their 2024 Canberra Raiders Cup campaign with a disappointing performance, which secures last place.

However, their overall season showed positive signs that they can build on as they look ahead to the 2025 season.

Belconnen United Sharks 54 defeat Tuggeranong Bushrangers 10

The reception was loud and proud at NSWRL HQ, as the Belconnen United Sharks claimed a 44 point victory over the Tuggeranong Bushrangers.

The Sharks were relentless in attack, crossing for 10 tries, with Tristan Eldridge and Jacob Piper securing try scoring doubles.

Another try scorer on the day, captain-coach Zac Patch, was awarded man of the match as he provided direction and momentum for his side in the dummy half role.

Tuggeranong's best moment came when 18 year-old Samuel Kimori-Edmond scored on his first grade debut.

As the regular season draws to a close, the Bushrangers look to rebound and finish their season on a positive note when they face the Blues.

Meanwhile, the Sharks aim to head into finals with momentum, as they prepare to face their rivals, the West Belconnen Warriors, in the final round.

Queanbeyan Kangaroos 66 defeat Yass Magpies 12

The Queanbeyan Kangaroos delivered a phenomenal performance over the weekend, defeating the Yass Magpies by 54 points.

Josh Ayers had a day out in his 300th first grade game, claiming an incredible four tries as the Roos racked up a big score to defeat the Magpies.

Fellow teammate Jaxen Yow crossed for a double in their big win.

The Kangaroos maintain their top two spot sitting level points with the first-placed Blues and third-placed Rams, heading into the final round.

As next week concludes Yass' 2024 season, they have the opportunity to hinder Woden's top two aspirations, while finishing the year on a high.

West Belconnen Warriors 38 defeat Goulburn City Bulldogs 10

The West Belconnen Warriors broke their five game losing streak, with a strong victory over the Goulburn City Bulldogs.

It was a full team effort from the Warriors, with six different players scoring. Andrew McDonald added a double to the tally, while Bobby Roberts successfully converted five goals.

Goulburn's Adam Jeffery and Thomas Harmer scored tries on a day where points were hard to come by for their team.

As finals footy is out of the picture for both teams, they look to finish on a positive note in the final round of the season this weekend.
