Katrina Fanning Shield: Round 17 Wrap

After 17 rounds in the Blumers Lawyers Katrina Fanning Shield, the top three teams are deadlocked on points, setting up a thrilling final round to determine the minor premiership.

Yass Magpies 42 defeat Bungendore Kangaroos 0

The Yass Magpies secured a commanding 42-nil victory at home over the Bungendore Kangaroos on Saturday afternoon.

Magpies players Jacinta Murphy and Tahlia Pothan were pivotal in the big win, with Murphy crossing for a hat-trick and Pothan securing a double.

Yass claimed their eighth consecutive win and moved to second position on the ladder, level on points with the first-placed Rams and third-placed Blues.

They will look to carry over their winning momentum in their fight for the minor premiership as they face Woden in a top-of-the-table clash this weekend.

Bungendore will no doubt be looking to put on a good performance when they face Goulburn in front of a home crowd to conclude their season.

Woden Valley Rams 26 defeat Gungahlin Bulls 4

The Woden Valley Rams claimed a strong 26-4 victory against the Gungahlin Bulls over the weekend.

Gungahlin Enclosed Oval was filled with excitement to host the top four clash, however the Bulls struggled to get past Woden’s strong defensive line.

Ram’s centre Tamsyn Cairns and skipper Lara Cosgrove were on fire, with Cairns securing a hat-trick and Cosgrove crossing for two.

Meanwhile, Gungahlin's halfback Ashley Palmer was the only Bulls player to find the line.

Over the coming weeks, the Bulls will look to fine-tune their game with the final round bye, as they look ahead to finals with their fourth spot on the ladder locked in.

Meanwhile, the Rams will look to secure the minor premiership when they face the second-placed Yass Magpies.

Tuggeranong Bushrangers 8 defeat Belconnen United Sharks 0

The Tuggeranong Bushrangers secured their third win of the year in a tight 8-nil game against the Belconnen United Sharks.

The Bushrangers achieved their first clean sheet of the year, holding their opponents scoreless for the entire 80 minutes.

Tuggeranong’s lock Nirvana Ngan-Woo and hooker Caitlin Fazey-Robinson were instrumental in the victory, as the only players to cross the line.

This score line may have come as a surprise to onlookers, after the Sharks secured a strong 30-8 win over the Bushrangers in round eight.

The Bushrangers will look to carry over this winning momentum to cause an upset against the third-placed Queanbeyan Blues this weekend.

On the other hand, the Sharks will look to make amends as they prepare for a fifth verse sixth clash against the West Belconnen Warriors, with both sides looking to finish their year with a win.

West Belconnen Warriors 36 defeat Goulburn City Bulldogs 10

The West Belconnen Warriors proved too strong for the Goulburn City Bulldogs on Sunday morning, claiming a 36-10 victory at Raiders Belconnen.

The Bulldogs were unable to snatch the victory, despite strong efforts from Felicity Komaromi and Paige Cotterill, both finding the line.

Taya Dovie was massive for the Warriors, scoring four tries, while Grace Tai added a double.

With both teams out of finals contention, there is no doubt they will both look to close out their seasons with round 18 victories.

Next Saturday, the Warriors will face the Sharks at Raiders Belconnen, and the Bulldogs will face the Kangaroos at Seears Workwear Oval.
