The Canberra Raiders in conjunction with Good Shout and 9’s Wide World of Sports, will give fans an insight into the inaugural NRLW Season this Saturday, with the premiere screening of ‘Raiders Rising’, a documentary that follows the ups and downs of the club's first year in the NRLW in 2023.
From the moment the Raiders announced they had secured a license in the extended NRLW season the cameras were rolling, with Good Shout and the Raiders taking you along for a behind-the-scenes experience of the first-ever Raiders NRLW season.
This Saturday on Channel 9 and 9Now you can follow the journey, with insight from key players, staff, and personnel during what was a memorable first season in green, and you can see how the team came together in Canberra to chase their NRLW dream.
Raiders NRLW Coach Darrin Borthwick said it was exciting to have the club’s inaugural season documented, so future generations of female players could learn more about the trailblazers who went before them.
“We’re very excited for Raiders and all rugby league fans to experience what we went through in our first NRLW season and provide an insight into the culture and legacy the team is looking to create,” Borthwick said. “So much was packed into our first year and we’re hoping this project can help give an understanding of what goes into a season.”
Good Shout co-owner and Raiders Rising Director, Brett Frawley, said the documentary was an opportunity to showcase women’s rugby league, the Raiders football club and the city of Canberra.
“The Raiders mean so much to Canberra and its people, so to make this documentary for the city's first-ever women's team was a privilege,” Frawley said. “This is an historical document for the club, the city and the pioneers of the women's game in Canberra.
“Darrin and his players knew this and supported the project completely. The Raiders are a team of incredible personalities and it's those personalities that drive this documentary.”
Raiders Rising will premiere this Saturday at 3.00pm on Channel 9 and 9Now and will be available to watch on demand on 9Now.
