Raiders keep finals hopes alive with comeback win over Dragons

The Green Machine have secured a 26-24 win over the Dragons in a thrilling final clash of the regular season at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Dragons surged ahead early with back-to-back tries, but the Raiders mounted a dramatic comeback in the second half.

The nail-biting clash was sealed by a late try from prop Corey Horsburgh, keeping the Raiders' finals hopes alive.

The Dragons opened the scoring less than a minute in after Zac Lomax collected a Ben Hunt bomb and passed to Tom Eisenhuth, who crossed to score. Lomax's conversion made it six-nil just two minutes into the game.

St George followed up with back-to-back tries from hooker Jacob Liddle and second rower Jaydn Su'A.

Lomax added the extras to both tries, extending the Dragons' lead to 18-nil at the 12-minute-mark.

The Raiders finally came onto the scoreboard after quick thinking from second rower Hudson Young who sliced through and set up Danny Levi to score under the posts.

A successful conversion from Kaeo Weekes, narrowed the margin to 18-6 after 15 minutes.

The Dragons were quick to answer as five-eighth Lyhkan King-Togia chased down a grubber kick to score.

After successfully winning a Captain's Challenge, Canberra rolled over this momentum as centre Matt Timoko shifted the ball to Savage, who scored on the right edge.

After a missed conversion, the scoreboard was held at 24-10 going into halftime.

The Green Machine came back from the sheds fired up, with their defensive line holding strong despite repeat threats from the Dragons.

St George's ill-discipline handed the Raiders a crucial six-again, and they wasted no time. Centre Sebastian Kris swiftly fed the ball to winger Albert Hopoate, who darted over in the left corner to score.

Weekes successfully converted from the left edge, bringing the score to 24-16 nine minutes into the second half.

The contest remained back and forth, as both teams traded sets until Young found a gap and burst through the Dragons' defensive line to narrow the margin to 24-20.

In a nail-biting final ten minutes, the Raiders turned it on, regaining majority possession when it mattered most.

Prop Corey Horsburgh became the unlikely hero, executing a grubber before charging through to score the game-winning try.

Kaeo Weekes slotted the conversion, sealing a heart-stopping 26-24 victory and sending Raiders fans into a frenzy as they have kept their finals hopes alive.
