Magpies crowned 2024 Katrina Fanning Shield Premiers

The Yass Magpies secured the 2024 Katrina Fanning Shield premiership with a decisive 28-10 victory.

After clinching the 2024 minor premiership, Yass have gone on to claim the competitions top honour.

It was a fast paced start as Yass halfback Jenna Cook took advantage of some space on the left hand side of the field to snatch the first points of the clash, a successful conversion creating a 6-0 lead.

The Magpies extended their lead to 10-0 when a quick pass from dummy half allowed Emily Briggs to score under the posts, adding another four-pointer for her side.

Gungahlin nearly capitalised on Yass' error in the 14th minute when Amelia Kirui came within meters of the try line, but her effort fell just short.

Bulls forward Milika Tuinakauvadra made a powerful line break down the sideline, barreling through multiple defenders before offloading to Tijana Zdravevska, who was then pushed out of play, and another opportunity went missing.

The Magpies continued their momentum as Tiana Boulding put her body on the line to score, extending their lead to 16-0.

With three minutes left before halftime, Yass hooker Gabbie Davis used her speed to bypass three defenders and score, pushing their lead to 22-0.

The Bulls headed into the sheds with plenty to overcome in the second half against a Yass outfit that was on fire.

The Bulls finally hit back as Amelia Kirui used her strength to muscle over the line, securing the first points for her side.

Tuinakauvadra showcased her ball-running prowess once again, swatting away multiple defenders before scoring the Bulls' second try and bringing the score to 22-10.

Yass wasn’t done yet; Davis made a line break to score under the posts, putting the game out of reach at 28-10.

The crowd erupted with cheers in the final minutes as the Yass Magpies, with a phenomenal effort, secured the 2024 Katrina Fanning Shield premiership.
