The Canberra Raiders have continued their push to retain their young talent, with Kaeo Weekes extending his contract with the club until the end of the 2027 season.
Weekes had a wonderful first season in Canberra playing 17 matches for the club, showing his versatility and skill in both the halves and at fullback.
His outstanding debut season for the Raiders saw him awarded the NRL Coaches' Award at last week’s presentation night and he now adds a two-year extension to his current contract.
Weekes said he came to Canberra looking for the chance to build into his career and was excited to see where the team can head in the seasons ahead.
“I want to thank the club for giving me the opportunity to come down to Canberra. It was a big step to move down here away from my partner and family to chase my dream, but I’m so grateful I came,” Weekes said. “It’s been a really enjoyable first year for me, I love this club and what they’re building for the future and I’m looking forward to building on what I’ve started over the next few years.”
Raiders Recruitment Manager Joel Carbone said the club was looking forward to Kaeo’s continued development and what role he could play in the future.
“Kaeo has had a terrific first season with the club and proven that he’s not only an NRL Player, but a player who will continue to improve in the years ahead,” Carbone said. “Kaeo has wonderful skill and genuine pace, with the ability to play multiple positions in the backline.
“He’s also a fantastic young man with a great work ethic and attitude and we look forward to seeing the best of him in the years ahead.”
