Team of the Year 2024: Centres

Congratulations to Josh Billing (Queanbeyan Blues) and Jake Kiely (Queanbeyan Kangaroos) for their selection in the centres of the 2024 Canberra Raiders Cup Team of the Year.

#3 - Josh Billing (Queanbeyan Blues)

Josh Billing was a standout for the Blues, playing a pivotal role in their Grand Final run after a challenging 2023 season where they finished seventh, equal last.

Splitting his time between centre and backrow, Billing dominated opposition edges.

He was the top try-scorer in the competition with 17 tries in 14 games, an achievement recognised at the Les McIntyre Medal awards night.

Additionally, he made six NSW Cup appearances for the Canberra Raiders, scoring three tries.

Known for his ability to break tackles, Billing often powered through the defence to score.

A notable performance came in round 14 against the Rams, where despite the loss, Billing scored all three of his side’s tries through individual brilliance.

At 22 years old, the future is bright for this talented player, and the CRRL is excited to see his continued success in rugby league.

#4 - Jake Kiely (Queanbeyan Kangaroos)

A long-serving clubman, Jake Kiely has been a key figure in the Roos’ back-to-back premiership winning sides.

This season, he showcased his versatility in the outside backs, playing both in the centre and on the wing, scoring 13 tries in 15 games.

Known to put 100% effort into every game, Kiely combines strong ball carrying, speed, silky ball skills, and solid edge defence, making him the perfect all-round outside back.

Having played his junior footy with the Roos, he has gone on to be a stalwart in their senior grades since 2013.

His loyalty has paid off with consecutive titles, and his strong 2023 season earned him Monaro Colts selection in the Men’s Country Championship at the beginning of the year.
