Team of the Year 2024: Halfback

Congratulations to Queanbeyan Kangaroos captain-coach Sam Williams on being named halfback in the 2024 Canberra Raiders Cup Team of the Year.

Williams had another outstanding season in the competition, leading the Kangaroos to consecutive minor and major premierships, despite the departure of key players from their 2023 championship team.

His leadership and ability to instil a winning culture has been instrumental for the club, driving their remarkable success over his two years at the helm.

Narrowly missing his second Les McIntyre Medal by two points, Williams scored nine tries in 18 games and topped the competition with 169 points, overtaking Queanbeyan Blues’ George Morseu with 10 points in the Grand Final.

His ability to perform in high-pressure moments, including key tries and goals in the major semi-final and Grand Final, was pivotal in the Roos’ success.

He also captained and co-coached the Monaro Colts to a Country Championship Grand Final, rounding out a phenomenal 2024 season.

As the team looks toward a potential three-peat in 2025 with Williams steering the ship, the CRRL is excited to see what the Roos can achieve next season.
