Team of the Year 2024: Props

Congratulations to Rana Baker (Yass Magpies) and Robert Aratangi (Belconnen United Sharks) for their selection as the props in the 2024 Canberra Raiders Cup Team of the Year.

#8 - Rana Baker (Yass Magpies)

Despite a tough season for Yass, Rana Baker gave 100% each week, consistently leading from the front.

The big and mobile front-rower was pivotal in driving Yass’ go-forward, providing the platform for the team to remain competitive against top sides.

Recruited from the Blues to bring aggression and strength to the pack, Baker delivered in every aspect, especially as an attacking threat.

He scored eight tries in 13 games and was always dangerous close to the line.

At the Yass Magpies presentation night, Baker was honoured with the Jim Beck Trophy for Player’s Player and the Jeff Hazell Trophy as the Best Forward, reflecting his significant impact.

Baker is a key asset the club will want to retain for years to come for the strike and consistency he brings to the forward pack.

#10 - Robert Aratangi (Belconnen United Sharks)

Robert Aratangi was the standout in what was one of the most damaging forward packs in the competition.

The Sharks’ big and powerful pack was the driving force behind their top four finish and finals appearance this season.

Known for his ability to gain metres and break tackles, Aratangi consistently pushed his team forward with every carry.

He scored six tries in 16 games and frequently set up attacking opportunities by breaking through the line.

An integral part of an intimidating pack, Aratangi consistently laid the foundation for the Sharks outside strike weapons.

Retaining him, along with their other big boppers, will be crucial for Belconnen United’s premiership aspirations in 2025.
