Congratulations to Liam Oakley of the Tuggeranong Bushrangers for his selection at hooker in the 2024 Canberra Raiders Cup Team of the Year.
Despite the Bushrangers not matching last season’s success after losing key players from their Grand Finalist team, Oakley remained a standout, always putting in 100% and consistently delivering strong performances.
He’s the type of player that every club wants, combining heart and natural talent for the full 80 minutes.
His performances in a challenging season for Tuggeranong earned him the third nomination for the Les McIntyre Medal, staying in contention until McLachlan pulled ahead in the final rounds.
Oakley scored five tries in 15 games and ranked fifth in points as Tuggeranong’s goal kicker.
He’s an elusive attacking dummy half and really shines defensively, fearlessly putting his body on the line.
His versatility was on display when he stepped into the halfback role, showcasing his ball-playing and in-game kicking abilities.
Oakley was also crucial to the Monaro Colts Country Championship side, helping them reach the Grand Final.
A true clubman, Oakley played all his junior footy for the Valley Dragons and has spent his senior years with the Tuggeranong Bushrangers, aside from one season with Goulburn.
His heart and consistency make him the perfect fit for the Team of the Year.
