Team of the Year 2024: Lock

Congratulations to Jesse Martin of the Woden Valley Rams for his selection at lock in the 2024 Canberra Raiders Cup Team of the Year.

Martin was one of the competition’s most consistent performers, being named in the Team of the Week in most rounds.

After being named captain mid-season, he led the Rams to a third-place finish, tied for first on points, and progressing through to the preliminary final.

Known for his aggression and high work rate, Matin’s impact was massive in both attack and defence.

His strong ball-running skittled defensive lines and his ball skills made him a key link in the middle, setting up his outside players.

His ability to lock up the middle defensively largely contributed to the Rams boasting the best defensive record in the competition this year.

Martin’s talents were celebrated at the Les McIntyre Medal awards ceremony, where he received the Hewson/Stonham Medal as the Monaro Colts Player of the Year, following a standout Country Championships campaign.

Martin rounds out the starting 13 of the Team of the Year.
